EAST AFRICA WEDDINGS: THE ERITREAN TRIBE.

Eritrean Bride and Groom
many culture the Eritrean wedding follows the same part, it only slightly differs from the cultures of neighboring countries Somalia and Ethiopia. In most ethnic group at a time in Eritrean except for the kunamas , women did not choose their grooms either way a great form of participation is required from both families and the community just like the Igbo tribe.

The Eritrean traditional marriage is a base for economic and social relations as brides are exchanged by the payment of dowry just like the Zulu tribe and many other tribes in Africa. Although in some tribes in Eritrean dowry’s are paid by both parties. The magnitude of the bride price is unlimited as it depends on the economic standing  of the family of the groom or bride in any case dowry/bride price is an important phenomenon in Eritrean culture. The Eritrean wedding ceremony is divided into the courtship ceremony where the groom puts the engagement ring on the brides finger and the wedding ceremony which finalizes everything.
The Eritrean traditional wedding is unique in the sense that the wedding doesn’t start without the appearance of the bride and when she does appear she goes up to the stage. The Eritrean bride is usually adorned with a long cape or scarf which blends with the color of her embroidered dress. Also wrapped around her waist (not necessarily for all brides) is a long white sheet adorned with accessories and costume jewelry. The Eritrean bride is adorned with Gold jewelry which she wears on her hair with the traditional melsi hairstyle, and also her hands and legs which is covered by henna designs too While the Eritrean groom carries a sword which he takes off after 40 days of marriage.
