The 68th Cannes Film Festival 2015 is still ongoing and the festival which is scheduled to run fro 13th to 24th May, has had many films premiered with one of the forerunner to win the prestigious Palme d’Or Award being ‘Carol,’ a lesbian themed movie.

According to Business Insider quoting from Variety Magazine, the film was premiered on Sunday, 17th May, and has received wide reviews from the juries. The film centered around its protagonist, Australian actress Cate Blanchett who plays a 1950s New York high society socialite Ms Carol who was married to a man but fell in love with a shopgirl (played by Rooney Mara). Their ‘illicit’ love affairs walked through a minefield of societal prejudice which was considered a ‘hazard’ at that age of conservatism.

46 years old Cate Blanchett has two Oscars to her credit for her role in ‘The Aviator‘ and ‘Blue Jasmine.’ The film was directed by American director Todd Haynes who said of the movie:

“The almost-pathological paranoia that is usually defined as criminal is, in this case, romantic,”
“Even before it became a story about lesbian love — which was, of course, criminal, as defined by the world at that time — it was just about love itself as something criminal.”
