Chimamanda Adichie’s Kidnapped Father Released


The father of Nigeria’s award winning author, Chimamanda Adichie, who was kidnapped by unidentified men, has been freed. Professor James Nwoye Adichie was kidnapped on Saturday May 2, 2015, on his way from Nsukka to his home town in Aba, Anambra State when he was kidnapped. Reports say he was released at about 8.pm on Tuesday.

He is the first Professor of Statistics in Nigeria and was Deputy Vice-Chancellor of the University of Nigeria Nsukka (UNN) before he retired. His wife, Lady Grace Ifeoma Adichie, was the first female Registrar of UNN. The family is yet to comment on the incident.
