Female Nigerian Student Sentenced to Death in Malaysia for Drug Trafficking!

Mary George Unazi, 30, a student from Nigeria was sent to the gallows by a Malaysian High Court on Thursday after she was found guilty of trafficking 765.9gm of metamphetamine, also known as ‘syabu‘ in local parlance, at the Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) four years ago, DOY News reports.
Judge Datuk Ghazali made the decision after the prosecution were able to prove its case against 30-year-old Mary George Unazi, beyond a reasonable doubt. He said the private college student had also failed to prove that the bag containing the drug was not hers.
Unazi was found to have committed the offence at the baggage claim area at the international arrival hall of KLIA at 3.10 pm on May 10, 2011. She was charged under Section 39B(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 which carries a mandatory death penalty upon conviction.
Deputy public prosecutor Siti Noorbaya Jamil prosecuted, while Unazi was represented by lawyer Sangeet Kaur Deo.
The death penalty in Malaysia is by hanging.
