N4.5bn subsidy fraud: EFCC re-arraigns Ahmadu Ali’s son, others
Mamman, the son of a former Peoples Democratic Party chairman, Senator Ahmadu Ali and two others, were yesterday re-arraigned by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission for alleged complicity in a N4.5 billion fuel subsidy fraud before Justice Adeniyi Onigbanjo of an Ikeja High Court. Ali was re-arraigned alongside another oil marketer
, Christian Taylor and his company, Nasaman Oil Services Ltd. The trio had previously been arraigned on July 26, 2012 and their trial had commenced before their co-defendant, Oluwaseun Ogunbambo, absconded. This eventually led to the amendment of the charge against the defendants upon which they were re-arraigned. In the amended charge, the counts of conspiracy, obtaining money by false pretences, forgery and use of false documents was increased from nine to 49. EFCC’s lawyer, Seidu Atteh, informed the court that the defendants had fraudulently obtained N4.5 billion from the Federal Government between January 2011 and April 2012.
