Police officer accused of sexism by his own force's women's group in 'wolf-whistling' Twitter row

The Greater Manchester Police Association for Women in Policing said the male police officer boasting about being wolf-whistled was inappropriate

A police officer has been slammed by a women's police group for tweeting a comment about being wolf-whistled in Tesco.
The male officer behind called for followers to tweet the highlight of their week and volunteered his own as 'I’ll start ..... I just got wolf whistled in Tesco :-)'
But the joke - tweeted from Greater Manchester Police's @GMPMiddleton account - quickly turned sour when his own force's Association for Women in Policing (GMP AWP) group responded: '@GMPMiddleton really not appropriate for an official account #everydaysexism'.
The Manchester Evening News reports the comment sparked a debate on Twitter as to whether the officer's comment was appropriate.
Some suggested the post made light of sexual harassment, while others assumed it was a police woman tweeting about being wolf-whistled – until being told it was a man.

Lizzie Swag-uire, @TheLxzartQueen, asked: “Why are you making a joke out of sexual objectification?”

Lydia Grace Wagster, @lydiawagster added: “Wow this is all kinds of wrong.”

Others defended the officer, with Ashton Bradley, @AshtonBradXXX replying: “Nothing wrong with a little sexual objectification in the right places... Some of us have made a career out of it.”

The officer behind the account asked people to take the comment in the context he meant it: “Come on people, nothing derogatory.

"I’m a male.”
